Welcome to the The Belgian Chocolate Company. I will be adding new posts to give chocolate lovers the news, information and general info about all things chocolate.
The chocolate grew from a beverage that was popular among the Mesoamerican culture. This beverage turned into a sweet That crosses the continents and many cultures.
The first people known to have made chocolate were the ancient Aztecs and Mayans of Mexico and Central America. These people, ground cacao seeds with various spices to make an appealing beverage. Today Many cultures enjoy the different beverages that are made from the cacao bean.
During the next few weeks, I will be discussing some of the ins and outs of preparing different items with chocolate and discussing the differences of chocolate.
Prior to the mid 1800's chocolate consumed by the cultures of the Southern Americas was a bitter concoction. The Spanish were the first to come to the Americas and they found the chocolate drink too bitter. They added sugar and the drink forever changed, of course they hoarded their secret not sharing it with the rest of the world. During the mid 1800's new machinery was made that made chocolate the sweet creamy bars and treats we love. It was at this time it became more affordable for the general public.
